2025 Vestry Election

As we enter vestry election season, it is crucial to recognize the importance of diversity in our leadership. A strong vestry thrives on a variety of gifts and perspectives, drawing from individuals of different ages, interests, and expertise. Let us come together to ensure our parish reflects the richness of our community.

Ann (Annie) Drouillard

In what parish/diocesan/deanery-related activities have you been engaged?

I was active in acolytes, youth inspirational choir, and bell choir. I am currently the youth group leader at St. Luke’s and run the first Saturday of the month lunches

What career experience or other credentials would you bring to Vestry service if you are elected? My experience as a teacher will bring skills like budgeting and resource management, education and faith formation to help with Sunday school, continuing with the youth group and organization. What are your observations regarding the future of St. Luke’s Church and how do you feel you can contribute to them? St. Luke’s youth and liveliness seem to dwindle a little recently. Most of the youth that I group (sic) up with at St. Luke’s are thriving in careers, starting a family, and more and unfortunately, St. Luke’s hasn’t been a vessel of welcoming to them anymore so I would love to help bring that sense of welcome back and bring some liveliness back.

John Pellicane

In what parish/diocesan/deanery-related activities have you been engaged?

I was a parishioner at St. Luke & the Epiphany, 330 South 13th, Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19107 from 1994-2022. While there I was an Acolyte, Lector, carried the Oblation, Usher (and I scheduled the Ushers from 2020-2022) provided coffee hour (there one person provides each Sunday), in the Bell Choir (briefly) and was on the Vestry from 2021-2022. I transferred to St. Luke’s Germantown in 2022. Since that time, I have been a member of the Stewardship Committee (2024), have been an Acolyte and Lector.

What career experience or other credentials would you bring to Vestry service if you are elected? Since September of 1990 I have worked in mental health and substance abuse fields. I was a Substance Abuse Counselor, Crisis Counselor, Case Manager, and from 2012 – 2024 I was the Director of Camden County, New Jersey’s Office of Mental Health & Addiction (MA/SA). I was responsible for launching and overseeing the county’s funds for MH/SA. This involved strategic planning, studying the problems faced by consumers and family members. I have been involved in local, county and statewide efforts. While all SA/MA related issues were important, the greatest challenge we confronted was the Opioid Crisis. Camden County has been the most challenged county in the state by opioid related abuse and unfortunately, resultant fatalities. All of this work required collaboration with members of the public and other boards. I was responsible for convening no less than 6 boards, sitting on at least another six and making recommendations to the county leadership/Board of Commissioners. This work required devotion, determination, and skill to ensure these demographics who were encumbered by prejudice, denial, and a lack of compassion were afforded equity and respect. I oversaw approximately forty-three different programs, created many of them, wrote grant applications and responded to and approved or disapproved proposals from the community.   What are your observations regarding the future of St. Luke’s Church and how do you feel you can contribute to them? St. Luke’s is a diverse congregation. My desire is always to be engaged with and in areas where diversity is seen as an asset and strength. That is what we are ‘called’ to understand. There is a lot of ministry going on and there are many passionate members engaged with the work. When I arrived in 2022, I was welcomed. Because of the diversity, this parish offers something for anyone walking through the doors. However, as is the challenge for traditional religions in the US, the demographic of the congregation is aging. Without new members, most congregations will have difficulty sustaining themselves. This is true of St. Luke’s. In my short time with the Stewardship Committee, I have tried to offer suggestions that increase the interaction between congregants particularly so that all of the ministries at St. Luke’s are amply highlighted. Additionally, I hope to remind folks that our work reflects the gifts we received from Jesus’s ministry and life. Church – has been a blessing in my life and by assisting to ensure it is sustained and thrives, I feel I will be able to ‘give’ back.

Derrick McBride

In what parish/diocesan/deanery-related activities have you been engaged?

Acolyte in the early 1980’s under the guidance of Amos Norwood and Kiehl Cauthorn. Member and Secretary of the Men of St. Luke’s in the early to mid-2000’s. Member of Gen X in the early 2000’s, Member of the Lector’s Guild in 2018/19. Member of the Arts Guild in 2019. Catechumenate, baptism, confirmation, and reaffirmation by the bishop all at St. Luke’s Church.

What career experience or other credentials would you bring to Vestry service if you are elected? Leadership skills developed in my current position as Manager of IT Administration. Team building and organizational skills realized through prior positions as Manager of Collections Operations, Account Manager, and Project Manager. Community outreach through employee resource groups and corporate outreach initiatives. What are your observations regarding the future of St. Luke’s Church and how do you feel you can contribute to them? St Luke’s Church is a bedrock in Germantown. Its Christ centered liturgical foundation, and its catholic pedagogy make it a terrific place to worship. Several obvious observations include declining membership and an aging parishioner congregation. Some not so obvious observations include grounds maintenance and community support.  I am prepared to support ongoing efforts to offset/improve these observations where possible. Possibly I can assist with seeking corporate costs. I believe that St. Luke’s would be an ideal location for an annual MLK Day of Service during the MLK holiday (with sponsors) in addition.

Henry (Hank) Pinkerton

In what parish/diocesan/deanery-related activities have you been engaged?

Soprano boy choir, acolyte, Order of St Vincent, president, Canterbury Club, Hamilton College; urban ministry, (Delair) Camden Co, NJ (&yrs.); displaced persons, arranging services for disabled (ignored) veterans who had to move (air pollution affecting health of my pre-school children), a neighboring priest helped me move to Glen Ellyn, ILL. Created imaginative Christian Education; rescued college student from college drug scene; parish work in KY. Campus minister at University of Louisville; retired after 25 years.

What career experience or other credentials would you bring to Vestry service if you are elected? Trained counselor and negotiator; juggling priorities based on observable and demonstrated needs and available resources and persons willing to assist/participate. What are your observations regarding the future of St. Luke’s Church and how do you feel you can contribute to them? How long can St. Luke’s remain just a structure or masonry symbol? The best way to keep and maintain it is to house a vibrant ministry, to (first) those within its immediate reach – yes, the neighborhood, but also concerns affecting its members and those whom they love and nurture beyond the immediate neighborhood.
